Dan Dare returns...

...written by Garth Ennis. I think I just became a comics reader again. When I was a kid, I would read and re-read a really worn hardcover collection of Dan Dare comics that belonged to either my dad or my sister (not sure which). Used to creep me out.

Someone asked if my blog is dying out again. It's not - I have every intention of writing a Spurs match report (phew!), a tribute to Ole (sob!), and also something on the Turkish GP (Forza Ferrari!). Will get to all that this weekend, but work comes first right now.

At least this past weekend, I managed to find time to send this to STOMP. Still can't believe I did such a Singaporean kaypoh thing.

20 Legend

Amongst United legends, Ole will always be unique. Indeed, compared to other players who have made an impact on football in the last decade, Ole stands alone.

He was never really a starter, nor was he even close to being the most skillful player in United's squad. Yet, without him, there is no doubt that we would not have won the Treble. That goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup. That unforgettable moment of ecstasy in Barcelona.

Amazingly, Ole never once complained about not being in the first eleven, never demanded a transfer. He knew he was at the best club already, just as he was always in the right place when we needed a goal. And I've never seen a player who always got a shot on target, when given the opportunity - how often did you actually see Ole send a shot wide?

Ole's retirement puts us in a spot, striker-wise, but that's not something to worry about right now.

Now is the time to pay tribute.

It was starting to look like another fruitless afternoon, when finally United got what we needed to kickstart our season : a moment of brilliance from Nani, and a dash of luck when his thunderbolt took the slightest glance off Tevez's hair. We'll never know if the shot would've gone it anyway - it was certainly a screamer - but I'm still thanking Carlos' hairdresser for not snipping off those last millimeters.

F1: Turkey 2007

So, Massa once again demonstrates how good he is when out in front. He certainly has the ability to reel off consistently quick laps on a clear track. However, I agreed with the commentators that he's not quite as convincing when coming from behind, where Alonso's aggression and kimi's coolness give them the advantage. Nevertheless, many of this season's races have been decided in qualifying, so I'm still holding out hope that Massa can still pull it off.

Ultimately, it was a pretty boring race, with the real highlight being the moment when Hamilton's tire blew. It might be bad karma, but I was jumping up and down when that happened. Another failure like that, and the race will really be blown wide open. The rookie is finding it may not be as easy as it seemed, and the heat is on now.

Missed the game 'cuz I was at a dinner. DVR'ed it, but can't bring myself to watch it. From all accounts, it was yet another game that we dominated but didn't win. We have become...Arsenal. Ugh.

At least the Scouse and Chelski drew 1-1, and Arse also drew 1-1 with Blackburn.

The Glenlivet Archive 21 Yrs

I'm tasting The Glenlivet Archive 21 Yrs at the moment. Very full-bodied, syrupy whiskey, almost overpowering initially. Very spicy, but also with a fruity roundness, although not to the extent of being too sweet or porty. Extremely long finish. Tried it with water at first, but it is much better without - an extremely complex, interesting whiskey that reveals new facets with each mouthful. Hate to sound snobbish, but this whiskey is probably overkill unless you're very into single malts.

I'm also listening to LES MIS on my PS3, using the upsampling capability that was introduced in the last firmware upgrade. While hi-fi purists may be sceptical, the fact is that - following that firmware upgrade - the PS3 has become a top-notch CD player. Really.

Intuit : Quicken for Mac isn't dead...

...but it's certainly comatose. I've been a Quicken user for almost a decade, and it's a vital part of managing my life. However, Intuit's attitude towards Mac users sucks, despite the fact that their founder is on Apple's board. Despite the huge gap in functionality between the Mac and Windows versions, I've never found a viable Mac replacement, and I suspect many other Mac users are similarly held captive.

Ugh. Last year, we were top scorers in the league with 17 different players scoring. This year, despite having added attackers, we haven't looked like scoring, even when dominating possession.

What happened?

BTW I think I've been suffering a real gout attack for the last couple of days, but started taking Voren and it seems to have sorted out the pain. Not sure what triggered it off.

Why do they call it gout? It really should be called g-OUCH.
